About us

Simrad Optronics is a Norwegian public limited liability company ("ASA") governed by Norwegian law. The Group's head office is situated in Nøtterøy south of Oslo. The Company has subsidiaries in Norway (Nøtterøy and Oslo) and in the USA (Maine).

Simrad Optronics Group is a global military supplier of electro-optical instruments, weapon improvement products, vehicle systems and remote weapon systems. The Group's turnover in 2007 was NOK 468.4 million. The Group is highly international and exports to more than 40 countries. Export and sales abroad accounted for 47.2 % of the Group's turnover in 2007.

Since the start in 1948 the Company has been co-operating closely with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and the military users as well as with the industrial environment. In this way, technical know-how as well as practical experience have been made available and incorporated in the instruments manufactured. Innovative research and development combined with the company's ability to diversify into new fields have resulted in a wide range of products, which are now world leaders in their field. This technology permitted Simrad to develop a Fire & Gas division, with patented gas and flame detectors, which was successfully de-merged into the company Simtronics the first week of 2007.

To further develop and strengthen the Group's position as a key supplier of military equipment, effective January 1st 2007 the Company acquired Vinghøg AS at Nøtterøy, Norway which is a global niche supplier to the defence industry and the armed forces. During 2007 the Company formed Vingtech Corporation and established a completely new production facility in Maine, USA.
